One kid’s trash is a mom’s treasure….

Written by Jessica Chaffins

Since the south here has forgotten what winter is supposed to feel like, my girls have actally been outside a good bit lately….thank ya lowd!! With that comes the endless amounts of junk all over the yard….especially if it has busted.  It immediately finds a spot on the ground…to die. Then it becomes trash for mom or dad (hell even the dog) to do away with.  But not this time….….this time that busted up hula hoop will become a momma’s treasure, which actually will turn back to the girls. But hey, whadya gonna do?.  Anyway, a while back I found a cute little canopy for kids to have as a secret hide-a-way or private reading spot. Always had it in the back of my mind to do this, but one thing led to another, and well it went to the back burner.  Until today!!!

Since the girls were outside, playing around in their treehouse, I figured I would go ahead and jump on this project.  Especially since this will only take me about 20 minutes to do this.

I had some old and sun faded purple curtain panels that my mom had found.  I was originally going to use them just for scrap fabric.  Sooo….why not go ahead and put them back in the sun. Why get newer or better looking material to go outside when these curtains have already been exposed?! AND I DON’T NEED TO SEW ANYTHING!!!  WOOOHOOO!!

All I needed to do now was slide these panels on my “new” curtain rod A.K.A. busted up hula hoop.  Now to get the man’s magic Band-Aid….DUCT TAPE!! Just wrap up the seal and bam….like it was never broken, hehe!!

Yay….ready for install!!!  I am only going to make this attachment temporary…especially since these are already so worn and my girls change their minds like they change underwear.  Anyway, for now I am putting this canopy inside the playhouse portion of their treehouse.  Only used some 550 cord (paracord) to tie the hula hoop to the beams of their roof.

Even though this will be outside I still wanted it to look somewhat cute for them, so I wrapped two of the panels a little around the exposed hula hoop.  Panels are long enough anyway, ya don’t even notice the difference in length.  But ya know girls….they like their fluffy and cutesy stuff.

Viola….it is done!!! Really liking the ombre look of the curtains.  Almost looks like it was done on purpose.  As soon as I left out of their treehouse it was a shower, bed, and dressing room….hahaha!!! Love their imaginations!!!

We hope that you saw something here today to help you during your own crafting & life adventures. We encourage our readers to share their own projects in the comments as we absolutely LOVE seeing what others were inspired to create. We also kindly ask that comments be polite or constructive.
