Soooo I have another fail ***Insert eye roll***!! Some of you have probably heard of Shrinky Dinks…but other people like me, who have apparently been living under a rock, have not. So, needless to say, once I started seeing all these videos on Facebook about DIY Plastic Charms, I was all about it!!
Seemed easy enough; just trace or draw whatever you would like on those plastic pastry containers from the bakery with permanent markers. Then all you do is bake (ink side up) on 325° for about 2-3 minutes and BAM…instant charm. Well it apparently wasn’t that simple for me, go figure. But in all honesty I am pretty sure I know my mistake….which is a simple mistake and happy to say, easily correctable.
My problem was not using the correct plastic. My containers were the danish containers which are a thinner plastic compared to others. I need the heavier/harder plastic that contain the cookies. After a little research….the heavier plastic will melt easier and thicker with hardly any issues. But with using the thinner plastic it just wants to curl or hardly shrink at all, so you get left with this……..
say hello to Shrinky Don’t!! Definitely not what it is supposed to look like. Oh well….good thing is that my daughters are having some activities at school soon and I am providing snacks!! Guess who will be getting bakery cookies, hehe!! As soon as that container is empty, I will definitely be giving this another shot (and will definitely share again) before I totally write this one off as a failure. Until then…..don’t make my mistake!!
