Now Open…. for feeding

Written by Jessica Chaffins

So after running into some minor “construction” delays…it’s finally open for business…only if your business is climbing a pole (let’s keep it clean people) and eating!!  My intention was to mount the feeder in the same location that I had my previous feeder mounted. But just as most construction, issues surfaced and forced my hand a bit to alter my plan.

Original location to your left, new location to your right

Before, we had the previous feeder (which is now currently located in the demo pile at the bottom) screwed into a hickory tree that our squirrels love to play in.  So, naturally, I wanted it in the same location.  Well when we went to remove the condemned structure, we ran into trouble removing the screws from the tree…ugh!!  We had the feeder on that tree for so long that the tree had grown around the screw (I didn’t think ahead of time about that happening).  I feel soo terrible that I have hurt one of our trees 😦 !!!

So to avoid any issues with that again and causing even more damage to the tree, Jeff went and picked up a treated 4×4 (98mm x 98mm) to put in the ground next to the original tree.  Wanted to make sure it was treated so it can last a while in the elements and last for a bit in the ground.  If you decide to do this, make sure you place a layer of rock in the hole first to help with water drainage….this is necessary to keep water from “pooling” in the ground around the post, which will cause the wood to rot pretty quick.

Anyway, now I will be spending a lot of time stalking this feeder to see when they will arrive.  At least I know the birds like it, they have already started eating on the squirrels food.  Hahaha, all is fair squirrels!!!

We hope that you saw something here today to help you during your own crafting & life adventures. We encourage our readers to share their own projects in the comments as we absolutely LOVE seeing what others were inspired to create. We also kindly ask that comments be polite or constructive.

– Sincerely Renee & Jessica
